Evenings of fun!

These are all in a miksed up kind of order from various evening adventures... we decided to go out every second evening, with the theory that it wouldn't impede too much on our day activities. This theory worked, most of the time...

We tried to avoid the hotel bar and entertainment most evenings, as it started with a rather cringe-worthy monotonous kids disco. By day two i had already had enough reminiscing of old favourites such as 'agadoo', 'hokey pokey', 'i am the piano man' and 'the chicken song'. but on the last evening we hung around to watch some traditional Turkish dancing.

The local beer was Efes. It was pretty nice but the Turkish are not modest shy people, and neither are their servings of beer... şerefe! ('cheers' pronounced 'sherrif-e!)

our favourite form of evening entertainment was 'promenade people perving' - sitting outside one of the beach side bars (which incidentally produced some very comical karaoke moments) we watched all the dodgy dutch and English chav tourists go past, rarely without comment!

you can see in the background here the big screen which projected the karaoke antics from inside the bar to all the throngs passing by. this is why we chose not to participate at this particular venue!

Marmaris is famous for its production of rip-off brands, mainly billabong and quicksiver clothing and gucci and louis vitton handbags. But i also liked this version of KFC.

Ha ha. as usual we found the local version of the 'aussie bar'. in this case it was a very-not-so-aussie-bar. struggling to understand my accent and not quite certain whether fosters was actually australian, the barmen were very excited to discover that for the first time in a long time they actually had some authentic australians inhabiting their venue.

they boasted traditional australian pastimes such as karaoke and break dancing!?

Ricco and Gary, our friendly bar staff that gave us free drinks because of our 'long journey' from australia to get here...

it was a fun place anyway, so we ended up back here on several occasions!

on the last night we had to leave the hotel at 2am for our 6am flight home. after so many adventures we thought we could not pass up on the possibilities of more, and thought it was 'probably best' to go out again and retire from the nightlife early than to go to bed straight after dinner for a few hours sleep (pfft!). This final adventure involved a midnight dip in the clear balmy seas... we didn't want to say goodbye!
It turned out to be a good way of spending our last few hours and ensured deep, near-comatose sleep for us both on the long bus and plane ride home (after a rather lively first 10 minutes which put us in danger of being chased off the bus by some irritated slaapy dutch!).
