Guincho, the surfing beach

to repay Jackson for all his patience with our shopping adventures, we decided to take a 'short' train ride to the relaxed seaside town of Cascais, and the surfing beach of Guincho... the host of the world championship surfing competitions (Jackson proudly informed us).

sprite and ready for a dip!

i also thought it was necessary to have a dip while we had the chance. it wasn't a cold day, just overcast, but the water sure equated to tassie temperatures.

another surfer pondering the waves - it was a pretty popular place.

we think this is jackson. he was stoked to catch some waves, but unfortunately incapacitated himself for the rest of the trip by slipping a disc in his back. this resulted in a very long winded adventure to find some english speaking assistance which wasn't a) the receptionist at our hotel, b) the heart doctor at the clinic below our hotel, c) the chain-smoking ambulance officer chilling outside our hotel, or d) the lady at the desk of the australian embassy next door to our hotel... but ended up being the Portuguese-speaking-aboriginal-woman (not a everyday combination in my experience) at the embassy.
